In 2017 I stumbled across meth., which at the time was the solo project of Seb Alvarez, of good bands innumerable, including Chicago noise purveyors Cadence Fox, Tweak, and Carnivores at Grace. A year later meth. absorbed and amalgamated with another favorite local hardcore band, Black Nail, forming the current lineup we know today, and soon after announced their signing to Prosthetic Records, which as of late has been signing similar bands like wristmeetrazor.
Now meth. have returned with a new album, “Mother of Red Light,” ahead of their highly anticipated appearance at Mathcore Index Fest 2019, and today we have the pleasure of bringing you the debut single and music video for “Her Womb Lay Still,” which brings the emotional intensity and savageness of seminal bands like Me Him and Call It Us, Daughters, and Hayworth.
“Womb was one of the first songs we finished and fully demoed out during the writing process. It started with a structural guitar part I wrote that more or less designated the flow of the first few sections of the song. Zack took what I started and brought it all to life into its current form. Womb demonstrates all the elements we establish with the LP. It carries ambiance, harshness, heaviness and just overall abrasiveness. It’s also a perfect demonstration of everyone’s touch to the writing process as well as a solid preview into the themes portrayed throughout the narrative of the record.” -Seb Alvarez
Catch meth. on their run of dates with MouthBreather leading up to both of their appearances at Mathcore Index Fest 2019.
“Mother of Red Light” drops 8/23/19 via Prosthetic Records.
